One of the challenge with a curtain is that its behaviour changes throughout the year. To clarify, as light changes through the year, from summer to winter, the effect that your curtain has on your home will change, especially if they are net curtains.
Essentially with a net, during the brighter months they act to limit the light intake into a room. This can actually help to protect wooden floors etc, which may be sensitive to bright sunlight. During the darker, winter months, nets allow more light to enter the room and so in a sense they are performing the opposite function.
During the brighter months, other kind of opaque curtain may not work optimally. They can look heavy on windows, and often can drown more delicate smaller window spaces. By contrast, a net such as a cafe net works wonders on a smaller panelled window, and will continue to let in light, without overcrowding the space.
